The
S.W.E.E.T.SM System is a comprehensive
approach to understanding the body's structural organization and
human motion. It outlines a unique physical therapy process that
helps us align accurately with Gravity. When used wisely over time,
Gravity augments our strength and ease.
S.W.E.E.T.SM is an acronym that
stands for the key ingredients that help us live in balance: Space,
Weight, Effort, Energy and Time. Using the S.W.E.E.T.SM
System we learn to occupy Space boldly, balance our Weight securely,
direct our Effort effectively, tap our Energy freely, and move through
Time gracefully. We use these factors at On Solid GroundSM
to assess and formulate effective treatment plans.
On Solid GroundSM incorporates a
combination of bodywork methods including movement study, postural
alignment, soft tissue release, joint mobilization, balancing massage,
exercise design and ergonomic consultation, to address discomfort
and physical limitations.
1. Movement study:
Movement study is a method that combines movement sequencing with
sensory awareness exercises. It invites the individual to recognize
and experience Gravity at work and learn basic movement schema that
will decrease pain and improve health.
2. Postural improvement:
Postural improvement is an integral part of movement study. Pictures
are taken to assess the client's postural tendencies and subsequent
changes. Soft tissue techniques and joint mobilization are employed
to improve painful or compromised postures. Exercise provides additional
change.
3. Soft tissue release:
Soft tissue release is a bodywork method that gently relaxes connective
tissue, reducing excessive muscular tension and joint restriction.
Treating specific restrictions benefit neighboring structures, and
in turn the whole body.
4. Joint mobilization:
Joint mobilization is a bodywork method that optimizes the connections
made by the joints. It opens a pathway within the skeleton so that
Gravity can travel easily from feet to head to feet. The skeletal
framework can then provides both stability and mobility.
5. Balancing massage:
Using a gentle but firm technique, the practitioner releases the
imbalances within the muscles and connective tissue. This form of
touch prompts muscles and joints to reestablish synergistic relationships
with one another, resulting in a sense of wholeness.
6. Exercise design:
Functional exercises are designed to assist an individual use their
body in "real life" situations with strength and integrity.
Exercises are designed to support a sound Gravitational alignment
and re-educate daily movement habits. They are simple yet effective,
and compliment work done in-session.
7. Ergonomic consultation:
During an ergonomic consultation, the practitioner studies the postural,
movement and work habits used in the office, home, laboratory, construction
site, or studio. He/she assesses the design and use of furniture
and equipment. The OSG practitioner then identifies those specific
habits and postures that contribute to the problems at hand. Suggestions
and changes are made to create optimal working conditions. Our goal
is to enhance your ability to accomplish tasks easily, efficiently
and safely.
